Festivals, fairs, and being Kelly’s local guide
Festivals and fairs
- Identify top 10 annual draws in your county (fair boards, Pride, ethnic heritage, July 4, Christmas parade).
- Classify each: booth possible, walkthrough only, partnership table, or observe year-one.
- Permits: start early; Events escalates contracts to HQ.
- Rain plan and volunteer shifts (2-hour blocks max without relief).
What good looks like: you’re known as prepared, not as someone who ghosts mid-fair.
Building around local events
- Place home meet-and-greets within 48h of the fair so energy converts.
- Use P5 to fill rooms with people already in town for the festival.
- Social posts celebrate the community first; campaign mention follows policy.
Being Kelly’s local guide
You translate place. Kelly shouldn’t guess which door is awkward, where elders sit first, or which street has bad lighting.
Local guide checklist
- One-pager for the day: timeline, addresses, phones, parking, bathrooms.
- Name five people Kelly should know in the room and why.
- Name three landmines (family feuds, recent tragedies, toxic local beefs) — private briefing only.
- Food: preferences, allergies, and timing (never skip meals on long days).
- Kid dynamics: if families present, where quiet space is.
- Exit cue: how we end cleanly without insulting hosts.
Beginner vs advanced
- Beginner: accurate driving directions and on-time doors.
- Advanced: anticipates press questions, redirects bad faith provocateurs calmly, debriefs captures with Social same night.
